Conceptual vs. Commission

I am still struggling with this whole idea of the conceptual art vs. art for a commission. So I was talking to a peer of mine and she thought it might be a good idea to do work about the two of them side by side. Still in photographs of the city. This is just a blurb of a thought, because I was talking with Rachel and I am still struggling with a cohesive concept. I know what I would like to shoot, however being in a conceptual art school it doesn’t seem to work and no one seems to like it. Let me know your thoughts!

Old Work

So after I had my crit Wednesday I feel like my head was about to explode with suggestions and I felt like where my idea started was no where even close to where it ended. So I thought it would be a good idea to show some of my old work just to show how I photograph, what kind of style I like and take it from there.

Thoughts on Thoughts

Okay!

So I have nailed down what I am doing (at least this week) for my project. It could be subject to change because that is just the way my brain works. I have done plenty of research and with some help from peer feedback I believe that shooting photographs downtown could end up being successful.

I have looked at Over the Rhine Matters Blog and they have some great photos already but mainly in color. (Examples are below) The photographs that they show are already bursting with history, however I would like to bring out more of the history by not only creating an all black and white body of work but also by going to places and showing the character of the city that I grew up in and love.  Thoughts?

Senior Year Struggles

As most of the people who are going to be reading this blog know already, I am a senior in the Fine Arts program at UC (University of Cincinnati). My “focus”, if you can call it that, is in photography. This year we are supposed to hone in on a main theme, if we don’t already have on in mind, and present it at the end of the year. Well, I have become so burnt out on my theme, or lack thereof, that I am in desperate need of a new one!

Here are some new ideas that I have been thinking about:

  • Glorified Roadkill
  • B & W Cityscapes (for a commission)
  • The movement of birds

That is about all I have for right now. My thought is as the semester progresses and I get more feedback from critiques, peers, and professors I will be more confident in the direction that my work is going in.
